MAN

We teach that in Adam's sin of disobedience to the revealed will and Word of God, man lost his innocence, incurred the penalty of spiritual and physical death, became subject to the wrath of God, and became inherently corrupt and utterly incapable of choosing or doing that which is acceptable to God apart from divine grace. With no recuperative powers to enable him to recover himself, man is hopelessly lost. Man's salvation is thereby wholly of God's grace through the redemptive work of our Lord Jesus Christ (Genesis 2:16-17Genesis 2:16-17 (New American Standard Bible)
16The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;   17but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die."
; 3:1-19Genesis 3:1-4 (New American Standard Bible)
1Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"   2The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;   3but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'"   4The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die!   . . . . 23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
; 1 Corinthians 2:141 Corinthians 2:14 (New American Standard Bible)
14But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.
; Ephesians 2:1-3Ephesians 2:1-3 (New American Standard Bible)
1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,   2in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.   3Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
; 1 Timothy 2:13-141 Timothy 2:13-14 (New American Standard Bible)
13For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.   14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
; 1 John 1:81 John 1:8 (New American Standard Bible)
8If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
