LAST THINGS

Death

We teach that physical death involves no loss of our immaterial consciousness (Revelation 6:9-11Revelation 6:9-11 (New American Standard Bible)
9When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained;   10and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"   11And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.
), that the soul of the redeemed passes immediately into the presence of Christ (Luke 23:43Luke 23:43 (New American Standard Bible)
43And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise."
; Philippians 1:23Philippians 1:23 (New American Standard Bible)
23But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;
; 2 Corinthians 5:82 Corinthians 5:8 (New American Standard Bible)
8we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
), that there is a separation of soul and body (Philippians 1:21-24Philippians 1:21-24 (New American Standard Bible)
21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.   22But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.   23But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;   24yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.
), and that, for the redeemed, such separation will continue until the rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:13-171 Thessalonians 4:13-16 (New American Standard Bible)
13But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.   14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.   15For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.   16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.   . . . . ), which initiates the first resurrection (Revelation 20:4-6Revelation 20:4-6 (New American Standard Bible)
4Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.   5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.   6Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
), when our soul and body will be reunited to be glorified forever with our Lord (Philippians 3:21Philippians 3:21 (New American Standard Bible)
21who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.
; 1 Corinthians 15:35-441 Corinthians 15:35-38 (New American Standard Bible)
35But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?"   36You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies;   37and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else.   38But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own.   . . . . (click for complete reference)
, 50-54). Until that time, the souls of the redeemed in Christ remain in joyful fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:82 Corinthians 5:8 (New American Standard Bible)
8we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
).
We teach the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life (John 6:39John 6:39 (New American Standard Bible)
39"This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.
; Romans 8:10-11Romans 8:10-11 (New American Standard Bible)
10If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.   11But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
, 19-23; 2 Corinthians 4:142 Corinthians 4:14 (New American Standard Bible)
14knowing that He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and will present us with you.
), and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (Daniel 12:2Daniel 12:2 (New American Standard Bible)
2"Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.
; John 5:29John 5:29 (New American Standard Bible)
29and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
; Revelation 20:13-15Revelation 20:13-15 (New American Standard Bible)
13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.   14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire This is the second death, the lake of fire.   15And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
).
We teach that the souls of the unsaved at death are kept under punishment until the second resurrection (Luke 16:19-26Luke 16:19-22 (New American Standard Bible)
19"Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day.   20"And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,   21and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man's table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores.   22"Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.   . . . . ; Revelation 20:13-15Revelation 20:13-15 (New American Standard Bible)
13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.   14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire This is the second death, the lake of fire.   15And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
), when the soul and the resurrection body will be united (John 5:28-29John 5:28-29 (New American Standard Bible)
28"Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,   29and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
). They shall then appear at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15Revelation 20:11-14 (New American Standard Bible)
11Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.   12And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.   13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.   14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire This is the second death, the lake of fire.   . . . . ) and shall be cast into hell, the lake of fire (Matthew 25:41-46Matthew 25:41-44 (New American Standard Bible)
41"Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;   42for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;   43I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.'   44"Then they themselves also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?'   . . . . ), cut off from the life of God forever (Daniel 12:2Daniel 12:2 (New American Standard Bible)
2"Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.
; Matthew 25:41-46Matthew 25:41-44 (New American Standard Bible)
41"Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;   42for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;   43I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.'   44"Then they themselves also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?'   . . . . ; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-92 Thessalonians 1:7-9 (New American Standard Bible)
7and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,   8dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.   9These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
).

The Rapture of the Church

We teach the personal, bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ before the seven-year tribulation (1 Thessalonians 4:161 Thessalonians 4:16 (New American Standard Bible)
16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
; Titus 2:13Titus 2:13 (New American Standard Bible)
13looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,
) to translate His church from this earth (John 14:1-3John 14:1-3 (New American Standard Bible)
1"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.   2"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.   3"If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
; 1 Corinthians 15:51-531 Corinthians 15:51-53 (New American Standard Bible)
51Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,   52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.   53For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.
; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-5:11) and, between this event and His glorious return with His saints, to reward believers according to their works (1 Corinthians 3:11-151 Corinthians 3:11-14 (New American Standard Bible)
11For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.   12Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,   13each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work.   14If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.   . . . . (click for complete reference)
; 2 Corinthians 5:102 Corinthians 5:10 (New American Standard Bible)
10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
).

The Tribulation Period

We teach that immediately following the removal of the church from the earth (John 14:1-3John 14:1-3 (New American Standard Bible)
1"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.   2"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.   3"If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-181 Thessalonians 4:13-16 (New American Standard Bible)
13But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.   14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.   15For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.   16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.   . . . . (click for complete reference)
) the righteous judgments of God will be poured out upon an unbelieving world (Jeremiah 30:7Jeremiah 30:7 (New American Standard Bible)
7'Alas! for that day is great,
There is none like it;
And it is the time of Jacob's distress,
But he will be saved from it.
; Daniel 9:27Daniel 9:27 (New American Standard Bible)
27"And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate."
; 12:1Daniel 12:1 (New American Standard Bible)
1"Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued.
; 2 Thessalonians 2:7-122 Thessalonians 2:7-10 (New American Standard Bible)
7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.   8Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;   9that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,   10and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.   . . . . (click for complete reference)
; Revelation 16), and that these judgments will be climaxed by the return of Christ in glory to the earth (Matthew 24:27-31Matthew 24:27-30 (New American Standard Bible)
27"For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.   28"Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
The Glorious Return
29"But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.   30"And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory.   . . . . (click for complete reference)
; 25:31-46Matthew 25:31-34 (New American Standard Bible)
31"But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.   32"All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;   33and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.   34"Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.   . . . . ). At that time the Old Testament and tribulation saints will be raised and the living will be judged (Daniel 12:2-3Daniel 12:2-3 (New American Standard Bible)
2"Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.   3"Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
; Revelation 20:4-6Revelation 20:4-6 (New American Standard Bible)
4Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.   5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.   6Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
). This period includes the seventieth week of Daniel's prophecy (Daniel 9:24-27Daniel 9:24-27 (New American Standard Bible)
24"Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.   25"So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.   26"Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.   27"And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate."
; Matthew 24:15-31Matthew 24:15-18 (New American Standard Bible)
15"Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),   16then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.   17"Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house.   18"Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.   . . . . The Second Coming and the Millennial Reign

We teach that, after the tribulation period, Christ will come to earth to occupy the throne of David (Matthew 25:31Matthew 25:31 (New American Standard Bible)
31"But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.
; Luke 1:31-33Luke 1:31-33 (New American Standard Bible)
31"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.   32"He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;   33and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."
; Acts 1:10-11Acts 1:10-11 (New American Standard Bible)
10And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them.   11They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."
; 2:29-30Acts 2:29-30 (New American Standard Bible)
29"Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.   30"And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE,
) and establish His messianic kingdom for 1,000 years on the earth (Revelation 20:1-7Revelation 20:1-4 (New American Standard Bible)
1Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.   2And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;   3and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.   4Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.   . . . . ). During this time the resurrected saints will reign with Him over Israel and all the nations of the earth (Ezekiel 37:21-28Ezekiel 37:21-24 (New American Standard Bible)
21"Say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land;   22and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king will be king for all of them; and they will no longer be two nations and no longer be divided into two kingdoms.   23"They will no longer defile themselves with their idols, or with their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. And they will be My people, and I will be their God.

). This reign will be preceded by the overthrow of the Antichrist and the False Prophet, and by the removal of Satan from the world (Daniel 7:17-27Daniel 7:17-20 (New American Standard Bible)
17'These great beasts, which are four in number, are four kings who will arise from the earth.   18'But the saints of the Highest One will receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, for all ages to come.'   19"Then I desired to know the exact meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, and which devoured, crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet,   20and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up, and before which three of them fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth uttering great boasts and which was larger in appearance than its associates.   . . . . We teach that the kingdom itself will be the fulfillment of God's promise to Israel (Isaiah 65:17-25Isaiah 65:17-20 (New American Standard Bible)
17"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;
And the former things will not be remembered or come to mind.
18"But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create;
For behold, I create Jerusalem for rejoicing
And her people for gladness.
19"I will also rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people;
And there will no longer be heard in her
The voice of weeping and the sound of crying.
20"No longer will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days,
Or an old man who does not live out his days;
For the youth will die at the age of one hundred
And the one who does not reach the age of one hundred

The Davidic Kingdom

15"But it shall come about, if you do not obey the LORD your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:   16"Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country.   17"Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.   18"Cursed shall be the offspring of your body and the produce of your ground, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock.   . . . . ). The result of their disobedience was that Israel was temporarily set aside (Matthew 21:43Matthew 21:43 (New American Standard Bible)
43"Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people, producing the fruit of it.
; Romans 11:1-26Romans 11:1-4 (New American Standard Bible)
1I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.   2God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?   3"Lord, THEY HAVE KILLED YOUR PROPHETS, THEY HAVE TORN DOWN YOUR ALTARS, AND I ALONE AM LEFT, AND THEY ARE SEEKING MY LIFE."   4But what is the divine response to him? 31"Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,   32not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them," declares the LORD.   33"But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.   34"They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the LORD, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."
; Ezekiel 36:22-32Ezekiel 36:22-25 (New American Standard Bible)
22"Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went.   23"I will vindicate the holiness of My great name which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst Then the nations will know that I am the LORD," declares the Lord GOD, "when I prove Myself holy among you in their sight.   24"For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land.   25"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.   . . . . "THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION,
HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB."

The Judgment of the Lost

We teach that this resurrection of the unsaved dead to judgment will be a physical resurrection, whereupon receiving their judgment (Romans 14:10-13Romans 14:10-13 (New American Standard Bible)
10But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.   11For it is written,
"AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME,
AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD."   12So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God.   13Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this--not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way.
), they will be committed to an eternal conscious punishment in the lake of fire (Matthew 25:41Matthew 25:41 (New American Standard Bible)
41"Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
; Revelation 20:11-15Revelation 20:11-14 (New American Standard Bible)
11Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.   12And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.   13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.   14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire This is the second death, the lake of fire.   . . . . Eternity

We teach that after the closing of the millennium, the temporary release of Satan, and the judgment of unbelievers (2 Thessalonians 1:92 Thessalonians 1:9 (New American Standard Bible)
9These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
; Revelation 20:7-15Revelation 20:7-10 (New American Standard Bible)
7When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison,   8and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore.   9And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.   10And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.   . . . . ), the saved will enter the eternal state of glory with God, after which the elements of this earth are to be dissolved (2 Peter 3:102 Peter 3:10 (New American Standard Bible)
10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
) and replaced with a new earth, wherein only righteousness dwells (Ephesians 5:5Ephesians 5:5 (New American Standard Bible)
5For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
; Revelation 20:15Revelation 20:15 (New American Standard Bible)
15And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
; 21:1-27Revelation 21:1-4 (New American Standard Bible)
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.   2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.   3And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,   4and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away."   . . . . ; 22:1-21Revelation 22:1-4 (New American Standard Bible)
1Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb,   2in the middle of its street On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.   3There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;   4they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.   . . . . ). Following this, the heavenly city will come down out of heaven (Revelation 21:2Revelation 21:2 (New American Standard Bible)
2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
) and will be the dwelling place of the saints, where they will enjoy forever fellowship with God and one another (John 17:3John 17:3 (New American Standard Bible)
3"This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
; Revelation 21-22). Our Lord Jesus Christ, having fulfilled His redemptive mission, will then deliver up the kingdom to God the Father (1 Corinthians 15:24-281 Corinthians 15:24-27 (New American Standard Bible)
24then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.   25For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.   26The last enemy that will be abolished is death.   27For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.   . . . . ), that in all spheres the triune God may reign forever and ever (1 Corinthians 15:281 Corinthians 15:28 (New American Standard Bible)
28When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.
